Cyril Ramaphosa says "conflict, instability, governance failure" drive African emigration
“conflict, instability, governance failure, poverty and social discord”

President Cyril Ramaphosa told the Pan-African Parliament on 27 July that the continent’s leaders should tackle the fundamental drivers of emigration rather than blame migrants, according to a University of Johannesburg researcher’s analysis. The South African president condemned violence against foreigners, said legitimate worries about unauthorized entry exist, and argued migrants should not be held responsible for local unemployment or crime. He connected large-scale African departures to broader continental ailments, and urged the parliament to protect democratic rule by opposing constitutional manipulation. The commentary says continental solidarity must apply equally to countries that receive migrants and those whose political and economic failures force people to leave.
