JD Vance: "no doubt that the president of the United States is going to be very supportive"

Vice President JD Vance has said he expects President Donald Trump to back whatever decision he makes about running in 2028, following reports that Trump privately encouraged donors to support Vance as his eventual successor. The Washington Post, citing anonymous sources, reported that during an Oval Office meeting about two weeks ago, Trump told contributors he wanted Vance to win the next Republican presidential nomination, though advisers caution that no final choice has been made and Trump is still weighing Vance against Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Vance told CBS in June that he would consult his wife after the midterms before deciding, while expressing confidence in Trump’s support. The question matters because Republican donors and factions are already picking sides, and midterm results could reshape the contest.
