Mark Zuckerberg says "AI starts to dramatically change the way that we work" as Meta shifts labor
“AI starts to dramatically change the way that we work”
Reported August 10, 2026 by yahoo.com. Checked word for word against that report.
Amid tech executives’ longstanding claims that artificial intelligence will lead to shorter working hours, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg said his company is entering a period where AI is beginning to transform how work gets done, allowing a reduced workforce to achieve what once required more people. Meta has since laid off about one in ten employees. But tech workers paint a different picture. A former OpenAI employee told the BBC the company never tested the four-day week it urged others to adopt, and employees at OpenAI and Anthropic said sprint periods could exceed 90 hours weekly. Meta staff reported being moved without choice onto urgent AI teams and working nights and weekends. That gap between leadership’s promises and workers’ experiences is central to debates about AI’s effect on labor.
