Narendra Modi: "High-powered Demography Mission"

A federal panel investigating population shifts and illegal immigration began a three-day visit to Jammu on Monday. The committee, chaired by retired Justice Prakash Prabhakar Navlekar, met the region’s top civil and police administrators and received a briefing on local demographic patterns. It was formed in May, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s August 15 announcement of a major demographic review initiative and the Union Cabinet’s September 11 approval. During its stay through August 12, the panel is expected to visit settlements of Rohingya and Bangladeshi nationals and areas near the International Border. The visit comes amid longstanding concerns among BJP leaders and right-wing groups about illegal foreign residents, national security, and demographic change.
