Donald Trump says former U.S. Marine held in Russia "is coming HOME!"

Trump said on Truth Social that Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to free Gilman for compassionate reasons and that no prisoner exchange took place. Gilman had been arrested after an alleged assault on a police officer, then convicted and imprisoned; his sentence was later increased to ten years. His family’s advocates reported that his health had become life-threatening, and Senator Ed Markey described him as barely responsive. Trump said Gilman would arrive at Andrews Air Force Base that evening and had requested a cheeseburger. The release reflects Trump’s stated priority of bringing detained Americans home.
