Mark Zuckerberg says "close proactive collaboration" with the government instead of rigid AI review
“Given how dynamic and competitive the AI landscape is, I think it will be more productive to have a close proactive collaboration between frontier labs and the government rather than a rigid process and review timeline”

Mark Zuckerberg published a lengthy essay Monday on AI policy, saying the government and leading developers should work together on a continuing basis and that oversight should not be a one-size-fits-all hurdle. His comments followed the Trump administration’s missed August 1 deadline for detailing a planned voluntary review of advanced AI. Meta also introduced Glimmer, an open-weight model with lower computing demands. Zuckerberg called for American open models to lead worldwide and for superintelligence to reach many people, not stay centralized. He drew a contrast with OpenAI and Anthropic, which build closed models and have government contracts. The essay arrives amid competition with Chinese developers and as Meta faces litigation over alleged harms to young users and local data-center opposition.
