“that Washington, D.C., is again a Safe and Prestigious Community”
President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that he would not allow Democratic Socialists of America-endorsed candidate Janeese Lewis George, the likely next mayor of Washington, D.C., to undo what he described as his administration’s restoration of the capital. Trump listed George’s positions—including emptying prisons, making D.C. a sanctuary city, opposing ICE, defunding police, and expanding cashless bail—and said he had worked to make the city low-crime and beautiful. He stated he would meet with George but insisted the city must remain a safe and prestigious community. Trump’s comments follow bipartisan praise for his administration’s renovation of monuments and fountains in D.C., such as at Meridian Hill Park and Columbus Circle. George has said she will cooperate with the president within limits.
