President Trump announced on his social media platform that he is nominating Lance Schroyer, a former Oklahoma state trooper and U.S. Marine, to lead Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In the announcement, Trump highlighted Schroyer’s law enforcement background and his commitment to deporting immigrants in the country illegally, particularly those convicted of serious crimes, while also emphasizing Schroyer’s support for ICE personnel. Trump urged the Senate to quickly confirm the nominee. Schroyer currently serves as senior adviser to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and has little national political experience. If confirmed, he would become the first Senate-approved ICE director since 2017, at a time when the administration’s mass deportation efforts have drawn public criticism and protests after recent fatal incidents involving federal agents.
