“Iran has requested a meeting. It will take place tomorrow in Doha!”
Former President Donald Trump claimed on social media that Iran had asked for a meeting and that talks would occur Tuesday in Doha. However, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei stated no negotiations with the United States are scheduled “in the coming days,” and said an Iranian delegation’s trip to Qatar is unrelated to any US presence. Meanwhile, the White House confirmed that US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will travel to Doha following what it described as a request from Tehran, as diplomatic efforts continue after recent military exchanges over the Strait of Hormuz. The conflicting statements underscore a disconnect between the two sides regarding the status of talks, even as Qatar mediates under a 14-point memorandum of understanding whose implementation conditions have not yet been met.
