Former president Donald Trump used his Truth Social platform on Tuesday to say the Republican Party will stage a national convention in Dallas on Sept. 9‑10, marking the first GOP gathering scheduled during a midterm election cycle. He called the meeting historic and said it will showcase a range of participants such as business leaders, first‑responders and other workers, along with entertainment acts. The announcement comes while Republicans hold slim majorities in both chambers of Congress and face competitive races in Texas, including a tied Senate contest between state Attorney General Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico and a gubernatorial race where Gov. Greg Abbott leads Democrat Gina Hinojosa. The event is intended to highlight the party’s agenda ahead of those contests.
