Volodymyr Zelensky says "they strike civilian infrastructure" as Russia targets non‑military sites
“wherever the Russians can reach with their ballistic missiles, they strike civilian infrastructure”
Reported August 16, 2026 by standardmedia.co.ke. Checked word for word against that report.
Authorities said 19 people died in Russia and Ukraine over the weekend as both sides exchanged large-scale barrages targeting sites away from the front. In Ukraine, an overnight Russian attack hit a major steel plant in Kryvyi Rih and a book market in Kyiv; two people died at the plant. President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian missile forces were targeting non-military infrastructure, and he repeated his request for additional air-defense systems. Russia said it shot down 822 Ukrainian drones overnight. The raids come with combat lines largely unmoved and diplomacy frozen, and UN figures show July’s Ukrainian civilian death toll was the highest for a month since May 2022.
