Donald Trump says "110th captive American liberated" welcoming freed pilot and wife to White House

President Donald Trump said he will welcome American missionary pilot Kevin Rideout and his wife Krista at the White House after Rideout was freed from captivity in West Africa. Rideout, 50, was abducted in Niamey, Niger’s capital, in October and later said in a video that Islamic State militants had held him in Mali; his employer, Serving In Mission, announced his release Friday after nine months. Trump’s Sunday statement called the return the 110th American hostage freed during his second term. How the release happened is disputed: Reuters reported most sources said negotiation and a ransom, while the Libyan National Army claimed a raid; a U.S. official told The New York Times the release was not a military rescue, attributing it to sustained U.S. military pressure on ISIS.
