Trump says "We need to pass THE SAVE AMERICA ACT, now!" in push for citizenship voting bill

President Donald Trump on Monday again pushed Congress to quickly approve the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act, using a Truth Social message that highlighted India’s election procedures. Trump said India’s Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, had questioned how American voting could take place without an identification document bearing a photo, and Trump noted India’s latest national contest involved 646 million voters, with under 1 percent casting ballots by mail and every participant required to show identification. The White House described the proposal as a sensible, bipartisan step and said it would require citizenship documentation and identity checks for federal voter registration, restrict mail balloting to people facing illness, disability, military duties, or travel, and order states to delete non-citizens from election rolls. The bill was introduced Jan. 29.
