Donald Trump says tariff pause "have a DEAL!" as Canada‑US terms await documents
“based on the fact that Canada and the USA, subject to the finalization of documents, have a DEAL!”

Trump said on Truth Social that 50 percent tariffs on Canadian goods would pause for three days because, he said, the two countries had reached terms still awaiting formal completion. Those duties, ordered last month after the White House accused Canada of discriminating against US alcohol, autos, and dairy, were to begin just after midnight and would have covered about $20 billion of exports, including wine, hockey sticks, and cement. The pause came after Trump and Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke by phone Tuesday, as Canadian negotiators in Washington sought to avoid the levies and win relief from existing tariffs on steel, aluminum, autos, and lumber. Trump also mentioned reviving the Keystone XL pipeline, blocked under his predecessor. Oxford Economics called the tariffs a modest national risk but said central Canada’s manufacturing would be much harder hit.
