President Donald Trump used his Truth Social account to announce that Dr. Heidi Overton will be his nominee to head the Food and Drug Administration, filling the vacancy left three months earlier when Dr. Marty Makary resigned. Overton, who currently serves as the deputy director of the White House Domestic Policy Council and previously worked in the first Trump administration before joining the America First Policy Institute, holds a certification in public health and preventive medicine. Trump said she is widely regarded as intelligent and respected and will collaborate with Health Secretary Xavier Becerra and former TV doctor Dr. Oz to advance his agenda of accelerating medical cures, boosting innovation, reforming clinical trials, and lowering drug costs.
