Indiana State Sen. Chris Garten is expected to become the state Senate's GOP leader, and a late-September public forum in Warsaw on property taxes will now include him. Garten drew praise Wednesday from Governor Mike Braun and President Donald Trump. He would replace Rod Bray, who is leaving the leadership post after resisting the redistricting push backed by Trump to make all nine of Indiana's congressional districts favorable to Republicans. Trump attacked Bray and other Senate Republicans after the chamber rejected the plan in December, saying on social media that carrying it out would have gained Indiana two additional U.S. House seats. Several lawmakers who opposed the plan lost their May primary re-election bids. The property-tax forum is scheduled for September 29.
