President Donald Trump unveiled a new economic-pressure campaign against Iran, writing on Truth Social that the measures represent an unprecedented blow and warning that any country providing financial, business, airport, or government support to Tehran would face severe consequences. His announcement came as reports said Iran had lost much of its control over the Strait of Hormuz. Citing U.S. military operations, shipping analysts, and The New York Times, the reports say American forces have helped shepherd large numbers of oil tankers through Omani-side routes, limiting Iran’s ability to block or tax traffic. The new measures, which Trump said target Iranian oil smuggling, currency exchanges, front companies, and related revenue channels, also called on U.S. allies to join the isolation effort.
