Speaking at a private donor event in Southampton, N.Y., U.S. Vice-President JD Vance said Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney had tried to act tougher than President Donald Trump during trade negotiations, while crediting Conservative MP Jamil Jivani, a longtime friend, with quietly helping Canada's case. Vance also dismissed Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre as unimportant to the talks. The comments came after Trump announced a last-minute three-day delay of new tariffs on Canadian products, and as negotiators continued working toward a Saturday deadline.
