Emmanuel Macron says Russia's effort to "break Ukraine through terror" is futile

After a reported Russian attack that hit a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih twice and caused heavy civilian casualties, President Emmanuel Macron said Moscow was relying on attacks of this kind to intimidate Ukrainians, and he declared the approach futile. Speaking on X after a conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Macron accused Russia of escalating its aggression against civilians. He promised to send more interceptors, asked other countries to join missile-defense efforts, and said Russia should face increasing pressure until it stops fighting. Zelenskyy said they agreed to accelerate French military equipment and missile-license transfers, and discussed financing, faster bilateral defense deals, contacts with Donald Trump’s team, and a Monday meeting of allied nations supporting Ukraine.
