Claudia Sheinbaum: "power without principles becomes arrogance"
“power without principles becomes arrogance”
Reported August 23, 2026 by jpost.com. Checked word for word against that report.
Sinaloa Governor Ruben Rocha—whom US federal prosecutors have charged with drug trafficking, bribery, and shielding cartel members—returned to his job Friday after more than three months away, then on Saturday again asked to step aside temporarily. President Claudia Sheinbaum, a fellow Morena member, posted on X without naming him a warning about the dangers of unprincipled leadership and the primacy of public interest over personal concerns. Rocha responded on X with a statement placing Sinaloa, Mexico, and the movement he belongs to above all else. His return drew criticism from Morena and the federal government, who said he prioritized himself over the public. The US case is a rare action against a sitting senior Mexican politician; Rocha calls it a politically motivated attack. Sheinbaum’s administration has said Washington gave insufficient evidence for his arrest or extradition and has opened its own investigation.
