South Korean intelligence reported no signs that North Korea will soon send more soldiers to Russia, though Pyongyang appears to be preparing for that possibility, according to a lawmaker briefed by the Defence Intelligence Agency. The assessment follows Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s claim that Moscow planned to bring in 30,000 additional North Korean troops, a statement dismissed by Kim Yo-jong as baseless. The DIA estimates more than 16,000 North Korean troops have been deployed to Russia since October 2024, with many killed or wounded, and that Pyongyang has supplied over 15 million artillery shells. In a recent message to Vladimir Putin marking Korea’s liberation anniversary, Kim Jong Un voiced confidence in Russia’s victory in its struggle to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
