Donald Trump on Anthropic: “We don’t need it, we don’t want it” — he tells agencies to stop using it
“We don’t need it, we don’t want it, and will not do business with them again!”

Amid a new intellectual-property dispute, a University of Tennessee affiliate has filed what it calls the first patent-infringement lawsuit against Anthropic, maker of the Claude chatbot. The University of Tennessee Research Foundation says two 2014 patents by three UT researchers cover neural-network technology that Anthropic used in Claude Code without permission; the foundation is seeking damages. Anthropic has not commented. The suit follows a separate $1.5 billion copyright settlement over books used to train models. In February, President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that all federal agencies should stop using Anthropic products, describing the company as a major security risk and declaring the government would not work with it again. Later, some House Democrats called for testimony from AI executives. The case matters because it could show the university's research helped enable a widely used chatbot.
