Donald Trump says "Canada will be treated like a State no longer" after Canada suspended trade talks
“Build in the U.S. and there are ZERO TARIFFS. Canada will be treated like a State no longer!”

After Canada suspended trade talks with the United States, President Donald Trump escalated the dispute by threatening 50 percent tariffs on Canadian-made vehicles, auto parts and steel beginning Jan. 1. In a Truth Social post, Trump linked tariff relief to production inside the U.S. and said Canada’s previous accommodations were over. The threat followed new U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods such as honey, hockey sticks and alcohol. Prime Minister Mark Carney, in Lévis, Quebec, announcing a Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker deal using Canadian steel, said Canada would resume negotiations only when Washington shows genuine partnership and stops treating Canadian industry as subordinate. Carney has pledged dollar-for-dollar retaliatory tariffs by Sept. 8. Canada sends the majority of its exports to the U.S., according to the report.
