Meeting Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Beijing on Monday, Chinese leader Xi Jinping restated his government’s approach to Middle East peace, with the Palestinian cause at the center. He urged Israel and the Palestinians to renew negotiations toward a two-state solution and an independent Palestine. He also called for an all-out ceasefire, peaceful diplomacy, and respect for the sovereignty and security of regional states, including Jordan. On the West Bank’s governance and Gaza’s rebuilding, Xi said Palestinians themselves must have authority over their land. He asked international actors, particularly the UN Security Council, to safeguard civilians and guarantee aid. Abdullah commended China’s evenhanded position; afterward the two countries signed cooperation deals and released a statement deepening their strategic partnership.
