“united Team Canada approach”

During phone calls described by his office, Prime Minister Mark Carney urged opposition leaders on Aug. 25 to present a common front as Canada responds to an intensifying trade conflict with the United States. Carney, according to a statement from his office, updated them on fresh Canadian countermeasures. Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said in Windsor he would cooperate with the government and other parties against what he called unjustified U.S. tariffs, while again pressing the Liberals to reconvene Parliament and publish the draft agreement Canada’s negotiators declined to sign last week. Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet reported that Carney indicated he no longer wished to discuss concessions on supply management. Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne announced additional duties on U.S. products and raised steel and aluminum tariffs to 50 per cent.
