Donald Trump says he is "going to have a very good relationship" with Andy Burnham

Prime Minister Andy Burnham is defending his past criticism of President Donald Trump while preparing for his first U.S. visit in office. Asked about earlier remarks in which he called American politics poisonous and said Trump would not be welcome in Manchester, Burnham said both politicians have said things, and he will keep speaking candidly but will seek shared interests with the U.S. leader. Trump recently said he expected amicable relations with Burnham, while also claiming Britain was financially broken. Burnham plans to join European leaders in September to advocate for Ukraine’s defense. Separately, Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband said his old characterization of Trump as racist did not arise during State Department talks.
