Bill Gates says AI is "the greatest equaliser ever invented, or the worst source of injustice"

On Wednesday, Bill Gates published an essay warning that artificial intelligence could bring one of the most disruptive eras in history unless leaders take action. The Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist called on the United States and China, which host leading AI developers and control key parts of the supply chain, to start meeting now on shared rules before competition makes agreement more difficult. He said governments are not prepared for AI’s transition, which differs from past technological changes because of its speed and broad impact. Gates described AI as capable of producing vastly different outcomes—either raising people worldwide or worsening inequity—and stressed that building safeguards would take years, so talks must begin immediately.
