He said he would instead attend the Pentagon ceremony, where he is listed as a featured speaker, while Vice President JD Vance goes to the Ground Zero commemoration. Trump noted he knew the New York event has no speeches. Haberman and the Times stood by the report, saying the White House raised no objections before publication. The policy keeping elected officials off the speaking program at the memorial dates to 2012.
