Donald Trump says Canada has been "ripping us off" for years: "NO LONGER!" amid Lake Ontario renaming

President Trump has escalated his conflict with Canada by ordering the U.S. government to call Lake Ontario “Lake America” after trade talks broke down and he announced new 50% tariffs on many Canadian goods. Ontario’s premier responded by placing a bilingual billboard near the border insisting the lake’s established name would not change, and Canada’s prime minister also defended the original name. In a Truth Social message on Sunday, Trump asserted that Canada had exploited the U.S. for years and that this was now over. Google now labels the lake differently for U.S. and Canadian users, while New York’s governor said her state would keep calling it Lake Ontario. The episode is part of a broader trade conflict between the longtime allies, with Canada promising matching tariffs.
