Vladimir Putin says "forced to think about ensuring our strategic security" on missile buildup
“We were forced to think about ensuring our strategic security in a new reality”

Russian President Vladimir Putin made the remark while defending Moscow’s strategic missile buildup as a response to the U.S. withdrawal from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty. The comment came as Russia’s Defense Ministry announced a successful test launch of an unidentified mobile solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile from the Arkhangelsk region to the Kura range in Kamchatka during a training exercise. The ministry said the test met its goals and validated the missile’s performance. The launch followed a May test of the RS-28 Sarmat, a heavy ICBM Putin has described as the world’s strongest missile, with a much larger payload and longer range than Western systems. The tests occur with the New START treaty lapsed and no extension talks reported.
