Ursula von der Leyen said "hybrid attacks will not go without a clear response" over Leipzig drone

After Germany formally accused Russia of trying to attack Leipzig/Halle airport with an explosives-laden drone, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Europe would answer such covert operations decisively. The device was found beside a Ukrainian aircraft on August 4 and safely defused. Berlin said evidence pointed to Russian involvement and moved to close a Russian consulate, end a Russian cultural center’s lease, propose additional EU sanctions, and tighten entry rules. Russia denied any role and vowed a response. Poland also reported fresh sabotage, including arson. Von der Leyen’s warning came as EU foreign ministers prepared to gather in Ireland, amid Western officials’ growing alarms over Russian destabilization efforts across Europe.
