“required a little patience”

French President Emmanuel Macron and Britain’s King Charles III visited the Bayeux Tapestry together at the British Museum in London, where the roughly 1,000-year-old embroidered account of the Norman conquest is on loan from France for ten months. Macron’s remark that the project had needed some patience referred to the lengthy diplomacy behind the loan, first announced in 2018 and finalized during his July 2025 state visit to Britain. British Prime Minister Andy Burnham also attended, part of his broader push to rebuild ties with European neighbors after Brexit. Officials called the display a once-in-a-millennium cultural moment. The loan also involves reciprocal exhibitions of British treasures in Normandy.
