Xi Jinping: "close brothers standing by each other"

Xi Jinping landed in Cairo on Tuesday for his first trip to Egypt in ten years and met President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. The visit comes as Middle Eastern governments reassess security and economic alignments following the Iran war and doubts about U.S. dependability. In a Xinhua-published essay, Xi said the two countries were united against imperialism and colonialism and expressed ambitions for expanded cooperation. Egypt, which receives roughly $1.3 billion in annual American military aid, has pursued closer Chinese ties, including air exercises last month. Egypt’s strategic position—bordering conflict zones and hosting the Suez Canal—underlines the importance of Beijing’s growing regional role.
