Volodymyr Zelensky says Ukraine's response is, where possible, "to mirror" Russian drone strike
“adequately, noticeably and, if possible, to mirror”
Reported September 4, 2026 by rferl.org. Checked word for word against that report.
A Russian drone struck the main offices of Ukraine’s SBU security agency in central Kyiv on September 4, wounding at least seven people, and President Volodymyr Zelensky said he had instructed the agency’s director, Oleksandr Poklad, to prepare an answer that would be strong, public, and, where possible, a matching response to Moscow’s action once preparations were complete. The attack, which hit the building on Volodymyrska Street while Poklad was away, occurred as U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were expected to visit Moscow and Kyiv in the coming days. It also followed a street shootout between the SBU and Ukraine’s HUR military intelligence agency, after which Zelensky removed deputy heads from both groups.
