President Trump used his Truth Social account Sunday to back renaming New Mexico “New America,” saying many had urged the change and that it would improve the state’s image, according to his posts. He also accused New Mexico of major election fraud. Alongside the remarks, Trump shared what appeared to be an AI-made clip of him placing an “America” sticker over a New Mexico highway sign and dancing. The proposal drew immediate Democratic criticism. Representative Melanie Stansbury, a New Mexico Democrat, defended the existing name as tied to the state’s heritage; Representative Ted Lieu said the focus should instead be on record fuel prices and the war with Iran. The posts followed a burst of Truth Social activity that worried some onlookers about Trump’s mental well-being.
