Donald Trump says the Strait of Hormuz is "a very functioning strait"

President Donald Trump said on Aug. 26 and 27 that the Strait of Hormuz was accessible and under U.S. authority, even though shipping data reviewed by Reuters showed average cargo transits over the preceding ten days had dropped to about ten ships daily, the fewest since May; six vessels crossed Sunday and two Saturday, mostly on the Iranian side. Trump has claimed American control of the strait since Aug. 10. The news comes as U.S. fuel prices set records, with diesel above $5.85 per gallon and regular gasoline above $4 every day in August, according to AAA.
