Zelensky says a well-equipped Ukrainian military is "one of the main guarantees of security"

American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner traveled to Moscow and Kyiv over the weekend seeking to revive peace negotiations on the war in Ukraine. After meeting for roughly three hours with President Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukrainian officials in Kyiv, while British, French, and German security advisers were also in the city, the envoys described the talks as productive. The Kremlin said it did not reject the possibility of renewed three-way talks involving Russia, the United States, and Ukraine, although it gave no dates or location. Zelensky afterward called for outside assurances for Ukraine’s long-term safety, said disputed territorial questions remain open, and argued that only chiefs of state could settle the most delicate matters. He described a well-equipped Ukrainian military as essential to national defense. Another meeting involving Ukraine, the U.S., and European countries was agreed, with venue pending.
