“It has been that way for years - but no longer!”

Donald Trump used the Labour Day weekend to aim a new round of social media posts at Canada amid an ongoing trade dispute. In one Sunday post, the U.S. president complained about the exchange rate between the two countries’ currencies and wrote that it was about to change, without explaining further. The post came as Canada prepared to impose tariffs Tuesday on roughly $28 billion of U.S. products, after Washington added duties on Canadian goods in August. Trump separately said Bombardier, a Canadian maker of business jets, should not have access to the U.S. market because it relies on U.S. customers; Bombardier responded by citing its thousands of U.S. jobs and suppliers. He also again referred to Prime Minister Mark Carney as “governor,” a term he has used while suggesting Canada become a U.S. state.
