During the BRICS summit in New Delhi, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held sideline talks on Saturday, the newest attempt by the two rivals to improve relations harmed by a fatal border confrontation six years earlier. Xi commented on the bilateral relationship and urged the countries to complement each other, back one another, and seek shared growth. He also called for stronger cooperation and said that as leading Global South economies, China and India should help advance a world with multiple centers of power and peace and stability worldwide. Modi thanked Xi for Beijing’s assistance with this year’s gathering; China is set to host the next summit. India is hosting the expanded BRICS group, which Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian attended.
