Mark Zuckerberg says Meta has "numerous ROI positive places" for AI compute
“numerous ROI positive places”

Meta is designing its own AI chips and telling investors that demand for computing power exceeds what it can currently deploy. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said the company has many uses for additional compute that would pay off, and that outside parties have offered to buy spare capacity at prices well above Meta's own costs. Meta plans to release two more in-house accelerators, co-developed with Broadcom, during 2027 for inference workloads. Bank of America, an outside analyst, estimates those chips could cut spending by roughly $8.5 billion that year compared with buying equivalent third-party hardware. Meta's 2026 capital spending guidance sits at $130 billion to $145 billion, making chip costs central to whether the AI buildout delivers returns.
