“preparing a massive strike”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned Wednesday night that his Russian counterpart was planning a large-scale assault, urging residents to follow air-raid alerts. Hours later, Moscow launched 74 missiles and roughly 500 drones at Ukraine in an 11-hour barrage that struck central Kyiv, collapsing part of a residential building and landing near the European Union’s diplomatic mission. At least 21 people died in the capital, and scores were wounded. The attack—one of the largest combined strikes of the war—came just after U.S.-led peace talks in Alaska and as Ukrainian envoys prepared to meet the Trump administration. Zelensky described the assault as evidence Moscow prefers bombardment over negotiation, giving European governments a direct stake in the response.
