Trump says "LOWER THE INTEREST RATES" for US as Fed raises rates
“LOWER THE INTEREST RATES FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND FAST!”
Reported September 17, 2026 by aol.com. Checked word for word against that report.
President Donald Trump opposed the Federal Reserve's move to raise interest rates by a quarter point, to a range of 3.75% to 4% — the first increase in three years — and wrote on Truth Social that US rates should be 1% or lower, pointing to the country's credit strength, rising investment and trade deficits. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, whom Trump nominated to succeed Jerome Powell, said the step would help inflation get back to the Fed's 2% goal and that the committee had scaled back accommodative measures. Trump had often criticized Powell over rate decisions, and the Justice Department opened and later closed an inquiry into Powell's management of renovations at two central bank buildings in Washington. Powell is still a Fed board member.
