Donald Trump says Denmark-Greenland deal gives U.S. "permanent control over security" in Greenland
“The United States of America has entered into an Agreement with The Kingdom of Denmark, and Greenland, that gives the United States permanent control over security, and all other needs, in Greenland, completely addressing ALL of our many U.S. concerns. There will be NO COST to the United States!”

President Donald Trump announced Friday that the U.S. had reached an agreement with Denmark and Greenland covering security and other American priorities there at no expense to Washington. The announcement followed Trump’s earlier push to bring the self-governing Danish territory under U.S. control, which drew opposition from NATO allies. Greenland would remain under Danish authority, and the full text had not been released, so it was unclear how the arrangement differed from a 1951 defense pact that already allowed a broad U.S. military presence. Denmark’s prime minister said it affirms that the Kingdom remains sovereign and territorially intact and that Greenlanders can decide their own future. The United States, Greenland and Denmark are expected to sign the deal next week at the U.N. General Assembly, though legislative steps remain.
