During a diplomatic push ahead of next week’s NATO summit, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters in Bahrain that Tehran poses a more serious danger to European security than to the United States, and he rebuked European allies for opposing U.S. requests to use their bases in recent strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. His comments coincided with a visit by senior European conservative parliamentarians to Washington, who met officials at the White House, State Department and Pentagon to reassure the Trump administration that backing Ukraine and addressing Iran are not mutually exclusive, and to call for deeper transatlantic defense cooperation. The delegation stressed that disputes over Iran should not erode alliance cohesion on Ukraine and other shared security concerns.
