“It is my Great Honour to have just signed Pardons for six people who were persecuted by the Biden Administration, and were in, or being sent to, prison, for 'fixing their car,'”
President Donald Trump has issued pardons to nine individuals convicted of tampering with vehicle emissions controls, a move he characterized on his Truth Social platform as freeing people punished by the prior administration for “fixing their car.” According to the White House, the pardons covered 11 people total, including nine whose charges stemmed from disabling emissions monitors or selling bypass devices under the Clean Air Act. The announcement follows a Trump memo directing the Environmental Protection Agency to allow Americans to modify their own vehicles. This latest round of clemency, part of a broader pattern of pardons for allies and politically aligned figures during his second term, also included a separate pardon for Adam Kidan, a former business partner of lobbyist Jack Abramoff who pleaded guilty to fraud in a gambling-boat scheme.
