Speaking to the United Nations, Secretary‑General António Guterres warned that global divisions are deepening as the world confronts simultaneous challenges such as armed conflict, climate emergencies and the societal impact of artificial intelligence. He argued that these problems are linked by questions of authority and access, emphasizing that military strength alone does not guarantee stability and that technological or economic influence must be constrained by legal frameworks. Guterres called for restraint as a component of modern peace and reminded members not to overlook the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.
