Emmanuel Macron says Trump meeting aims "to find the right deal in order to open" Strait of Hormuz

In an ABC News interview with David Muir, French President Emmanuel Macron said his Monday meeting with President Donald Trump was intended to reach terms for restoring passage through the Strait of Hormuz and easing a worldwide energy crunch that has raised gasoline, diesel and jet fuel costs. Macron said Iran’s capacity to shut the waterway had likely been underestimated, that the United States is best positioned to resolve it, and that he would not assign blame. Asked about French military involvement, he said Paris seeks no confrontation but could contribute more to protect assets needed for shipping. He also criticized starting the war, saying replacing a government through bombing is not workable. The interview also covered Ukraine, Russia, artificial intelligence and Trump’s proposed arch.
