At the U.N. General Assembly, Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, said Russia had recruited citizens from 47 countries to fight in its war, sometimes by misleading them, and listed Ghana, Nepal, Tajikistan, India, Yemen, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Cuba, Belarus, Sudan and South Africa as examples. He also said North Korea had sent troops. Addressing delegates, he urged those governments to care for their people. Zelensky further accused Russia of frequent drone attacks targeting Ukrainian infrastructure, cities, and the economy, and said allowing President Vladimir Putin to continue the war would bring greater harm. He opposed easing sanctions, said Russia’s earnings should stay under economic pressure, and expressed interest in direct talks with China’s Xi Jinping.
