During his address to the United Nations General Assembly, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia has sent people from 47 countries to fight in Ukraine, accusing Moscow of luring them through misleading methods. He named Ghana, Nepal, Tajikistan, India, Yemen, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Cuba, Belarus, Sudan, and South Africa among the countries and appealed to those governments on behalf of their nationals. Zelensky also said North Korea has sent troops to aid Russia’s military and warned that foreign involvement extends beyond that. He called for continued sanctions pressure on Moscow and said he wanted direct talks with China’s Xi Jinping, whom he described as able to influence Russia more than many others.
