Andy Burnham to tell Labour conference: "time for Britain to believe again"
“time for Britain to believe again”

Andy Burnham, now Labour’s leader and the UK prime minister, will address the party’s conference in Liverpool for the first time in that role. He intends to outline a different course for the country and put behind it about a decade of instability dating from the Brexit referendum. He vowed to resist pressure from Labour’s left wing over the government’s handling of the Gaza conflict. Momentum and the Palestine Solidarity Campaign had encouraged members to endorse a proposal urging Britain to accuse Israel of genocide in Gaza and stop all weapons exports to it. Burnham said he expected a large majority of delegates would instead support him, referencing Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband’s revised policy on West Bank settlements and worries about the E1 tender process. The conference, October Budget and a promised 10-year plan will help define his vision.
